Fashion & Film: Funny Face

[Currently watching]

I certainly have a special place in my heart for all Audrey Hepburn movies. I’ve read biographies, watched her films over and over again, and soak in anything I can associated with Audrey. Who doesn’t? Funny Face is actually one of her earlier (ish) films, a few years before her ultra-fame from Breakfast at Tiffany’s (which might have a shout-out in a future Fashion & Film post). In Funny Face, we follow Audrey’s bookworm character, Jo, as she travels to Paris with a photographer and a fashion magazine editor in order to become the new “face” of fashion. It’s almost enough to watch this movie just in order to watch Fred Astaire and Audrey dance, but fashion seems to be its mainstay. Thin, ankle-length cigarette pants… Colorful, dramatic dresses… Posing in front of the Eiffel Tower.
